LED downlight supports the building of a clean community

It is difficult for us to build a clean world after we have savages the land for so long. It will probably take quite a long time before we can restore the balance and make this a better place to live. Technology may be the catalyst. Science and technology are changing rapidly to meet different requirements. Scientists can always come up with new ideas to improve the quality of our lives or make our jobs much easier. LED lights such as LED downlight, LED panel light, LED fluorescent light and LED fluorescent tubes are a good example in case. They are quite popular in the market. Now they have already been installed in many places to achieve different purposes.

There is no question that LED lighting such as LED downlight and LED fluorescent light is hot (figuratively… not literally).

So what steps should integrators take to start selling LEDs to clients? Here are four easy methods to become a “lighting engineer.”

Put LEDs in Your Showroom

If you have a private or retail showroom, put in LEDs. It’s pretty simple. Companies like Cyron Inc. will work with integrators with extreme discounts for showroom lighting, whether it be cove lighting or home theater accents.“Integrating LEDs into your showroom is the best way to bring the ‘wow factor’ to your clients,” says Shell Reinish, vice president of sales at Chatsworth, Calif.-based Cyron. He says the most effective showroom lighting placements are accent lights behind flat-panel TVs or projection screens, soffits, strip lights for stair kicks and sconces.“It’s best to set them all up under a single control,” he says. “It takes an average vignette in a showroom and adds an edge to it, which helps set atmosphere with clients.” Reinish says a dull red, light aqua blue, dull green light or pale white behind a screen is the most effective color in terms of making a room “more comfortable,” but he does not recommend dull red for a home theater. “In a totally dark room, often a screen is too bright on the eyes. It is easier to watch and not as harsh on the eyes,” he says, adding that studies have shown that a 6500 Kelvin “cool white” backlight is referred to as a standard in the industry for reducing eyestrain. “Of course, you also don’t want to stand or sit too close to the TV. It will hurt your eyes. That is now more true than ever,” he notes. (Editor’s note: I guess our parents were right to nag at us as kids to move away from the TV.)

Create an Energy Report

For integrators who do not have a showroom, it will be difficult to portray the aesthetic benefits. Another way to introduce LEDs to clients is to discuss the energy-saving aspects by creating an “Energy Report.” This document should analyze room by room the common LED lighting options, costs and typical payback period. The standard LED light such as LED fluorescent light and LED downlight lasts eight to 10 years with 30,000 to 40,000 hours of life. The typical payback time varies on how often the light is on, but it hovers around 18 months to two years, according to Reinish. “The bottom line is that a home’s lighting costs will drop like a rock with LEDs, and they have all the features of incandescents in terms of being dimmable and not generating UV rays that can bleach furniture,” he adds.

Make LEDs a Basic Element in a Room-by-Room Proposal

One way to make sure LEDs are less likely to be on the chopping block of your client proposals is to include LEDs as a basic element in every room of a room-by-room proposal vs. separating it out. Reinish recommends integrators ask their clients a simple question while discussing A/V options: “How do you plan to light the room?” The odds are clients will be talking with an electrician just the same way they are engaged with an integrator. “They certainly don’t plan to live in the dark,” he notes. Cyron has an in-home demo LED case with ribbon strips and a controller that dealers can buy for $325. Reinish recommends placing the lowest-possible cost LED lights in the proposal as a necessary element and trying to upgrade from there. “Make lights integral to the room,” he adds. “Don’t let it be part of the electrician’s canned lighting proposal.”

Sell Exterior LEDs

Often forgotten, there is a huge opportunity to sell LEDs outdoors, even if you don’t get the A/V portion of the job. Pathway lights, holiday lights, pool bullnose tile lights, 24-inch lightbars under eaves, and exterior wash lights on to plants and the home itself are all opportunities. “It is not a big dollar expenditure to do exterior lights,” says Reinish. “The days of $50 LEDs are ancient history. Some exterior LED bulbs sell for as little as $6.”

LED lights such as LED downlight, LED panel light, LED fluorescent light and LED fluorescent tubes have many great advantages. They can be used to promote marketing and also can be used to save more energy and offer better light conditions. Some citizens believe that the application of LED lights can make it a better place to live.

Urban planners have been advised to avail of light emitting diode (LED) lighting solutions to address urban development and sustainability challenges to improve people’s quality of life.

The suggestion was made at the “city.people.light” event recently hosted by Philips Lighting in Bali and attended by government officials, contractors and consultants.

Government institutions in Bali were advised to accelerate their efforts in replacing conventional street lighting with LED lighting such as LED downlight to reduce energy consumption and improve urban landscapes.

With the current global rate of switching from conventional lighting to LED lighting for street illumination estimated to be only 3 percent, urban planners have been urged to speed up the use of LED lighting to avail of the energy savings and city beautification benefits to become more efficient, harmonious and iconic.

“City lights not only have a crucial role to play in decelerating climate change and promoting energy efficiency; lighting has the potential to reinvigorate urban life and promote the sense of a thriving community,” said Riris, marketing manager of Philips Lighting Commercial, PT Philips Indonesia.

“Cities can be reinvented as icons, through the transformation of their skylines through the innovative use of LED lighting solutions,” she said, emphasizing the potential of LED lighting solutions to reveal vibrant urban settings.

Globally, lighting consumes around 19 percent of total energy consumption. The new LED-based lighting technology can cut energy consumption by half, which is equal to saving ¤106 billion and reducing the emission of carbon dioxide by 555 million tons per year.

LED lighting such as LED panel light, LED tube light, LED fluorescent light and LED fluorescent tubes is the ideal lighting solution to the energy problem. With its so many advantages, LED lighting to succeed in the market won’t be a big surprise to us at all. Now LED lights are used to decorate the Tower Bridge in London.

Dazzling white light on a global landmark that is fit for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, comes from GE Lighting.

The East Cleveland company designed a new lighting system for the Tower Bridge in London, England. The official lighting switch was thrown Wednesday night across the pond.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this weekend celebrates her 60-year reign. The specially-lit bridge also will be prominently featured to mark the 2012 Olympic Games.

Not only does the new lighting system enhance the bridge’s architecture, it also cuts energy consumption. The system uses 1,800 energy efficient LED bulbs light such as LED T8 light. The bulbs also can vary in intensity and color.

Londoners will enjoy the lights long after the Olympics. The new lighting system will be in place for 25 years.

“We are incredibly proud to have been involved with the lighting scheme at Tower Bridge,” said Phil Marshall, President and CEO, GE Lighting EMEA, in a news release. The bridge uses 40 percent less energy than the previous lighting system, he said.

During the Olympics, Marshall said there will be a light display every evening, “ensuring those in the city can fully enjoy the new lighting scheme and see Tower Bridge as they never have before.”

In recent years, green technology is becoming very popular, which shows that people are more concerned about the future environment. Efforts have been made to fight the battle of environment worsening but the results are far from satisfactory. Green technology is believed to be the effective measure to address the current situation and bring us a clean, quiet and harmonious society. LED lights, for example, have made great contributions in saving more energy. LED lights including LED downlight, LED panel light and LED fluorescent light offer us more room for improvement in terms of green lighting. It is often said that technology is the important factor to drive up the economy. And perhaps it is also the solution to the energy crisis. Energy efficient products will show more advantages in the long run and will be accepted by the public.
